The liberty institute is starting to prepare a roadmap for reforms

The Liberty Institute is starting to prepare a roadmap for reforms.

The New Republic project will develop political recommendations that will help the future leaders of Georgia to fundamentally transform all major areas from the very first day of the change of government.

Once the mandate of trust is obtained, it must be invested in reforms that transform freedom, justice and solidarity from lofty ideals into practical changes. Without this, each citizen will not feel the benevolent influence of Western values directly on his life and will consider himself cheated once again.

Doomed to inevitable collapse, the last stand of an evil empire provokes a backlash of equal force. The failed attempt to re-enslave former Soviet countries is transformed into a powerful impetus for freedom. It depends on our choice whether this energy will be wasted or will be used for Georgia's European future.

30 years ago, our country met the chance to return to the Western civilization unprepared.

The transformation plan developed 20 years ago with the participation of the Liberty Institute - 10 Steps to Freedom - became the basis for the consolidation of reformist forces and contributed to the success of the Rose Revolution. Despite this, we did not manage to completely free ourselves from the Soviet remnants, and then, instead of correcting the failures, we began a sharp retreat.

The degeneration of the state is of such a degree that without its re-establishment all individual reforms will be in vain. The captured state should serve the common good and its center should be the dignity of the individual. That is why we need a new republic, based on natural law, an unbreakable contract of past, present and future generations.

It is still difficult to say when we will be able to close this page of history, but when we do, it is very likely that we will still not be able to use the new window of opportunity. One of the reasons for this could be the immaturity of Georgian politicians. An appalling majority of them have neither the intellectual nor the moral resources to lead society forward.

Our recent history has reinforced the feeling that the political class consists of unprincipled opportunists and egomaniacal populists. The nihilistic expectation that nothing will change for the benefit of the ordinary citizen with the change of assemblies from the opposition to the government makes progress impossible.

We will defeat hopelessness, cynicism and demagoguery only in the competition of ideas. This fight is the fight of each of us, but civil society has a special responsibility. Together, we should promote the strengthening of those forces that are ready to bring moral clarity to politics and have the intellectual potential to act in accordance with historical challenges.

First, we need to get out of the trap of false dilemmas - as if Christianity and liberalism, security and independence, are incompatible and we have to choose one or the other. Our progress depends on realizing that tradition and innovation, individualism and solidarity are not mutually exclusive but complementary values.

All this requires the construction of new public alliances. Therefore, we are starting cooperation with European Georgia. This party is ready to take political responsibility for the implementation of the reform program prepared by us with broad public participation, in case of obtaining the voter's mandate.
